About Julia

I started my career as a literary translator, and changed gears in recent years to obtain a BC Teaching Certificate for teaching French immersion in secondary schools. I am from Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, where I attended a francophone school from the age of 3. I went to university in Paris (Sorbonne), obtaining a Bachelor's and Master's degree in literature. I currently work part-time as a TTOC (substitute teacher) in SD62 and from home, where I do some writing.
In the classroom, my favourite thing is connecting with students and getting to know them in order to help them get where they want to go. Not everyone needs to be a grammar expert! But if that is where your interest lies, I can certainly help you shine. I often compare language learning to driving. It all depends on where you want to go and what kind of vehicle you are driving (your brain!). Different people will learn differently. We will start by establishing your goals, then develop a plan together to attain them. You've got this!

About the lesson

I like to have a structured approach that adapts to the uniqueness of each student. I believe the best way to teach is to, first, learn how a student learns and what sparks their interest. Harnessing the students passions to help them interact with the material is my forte. I bring joy, empathy, and kindness to all my classes. No one should feel bad for the way they learn or the time they take to assimilate things. Together, we can get where you want to go!
