About Dandya

I achieved an A* in A-Level Psychology and went on to achieve 2:1 degrees from Durham University and the University of Edinburgh, giving me experience of studying Psychology from school through to postgraduate level. I am currently a Sport and Exercise Psychologist (in Training).

However, my academic journey was not always straightforward. Throughout primary and secondary school, I often struggled with academic confidence and found it difficult to keep up, leaving me feeling anxious and uncertain about my abilities. Over time, I developed my own effective ways of learning, revising and approaching challenging topics, which helped me grow in both confidence and academic achievement.

Because of this experience, I understand that every student learns differently, and that sometimes the biggest barrier to progress is simply not feeling confident in your ability. I now use the techniques and strategies I developed throughout my education to help students understand complex topics, approach their studies with greater confidence and discover what works best for them.

As a tutor, I pride myself on being patient, approachable and encouraging. I want my students to feel comfortable asking questions, making mistakes and taking their time to understand something, while also helping them develop the independence and confidence to succeed beyond our lessons.

About the lesson

I’ll start by understanding each student’s goals, strengths and areas they would most like to work on. I’ll then tailor lessons to their pace, level and learning style. Lessons will typically begin with a quick recap or discussion of previous learning, before moving into the main topic. I’ll break down complex theories, concepts and research into clear, accessible explanations, using real-world examples and discussion to help students develop genuine understanding rather than simply memorising information. Depending on the student’s needs, we can then work through practice questions, essay plans, exam technique, active-recall activities or revision strategies. I’ll also regularly check understanding and adapt the pace and approach throughout the lesson.

My aim is for lessons to be relaxed and collaborative, with students encouraged to ask questions and think critically about Psychology. Most importantly, I take a patient, supportive and nurturing approach, creating an environment where students feel comfortable admitting when they are unsure, making mistakes and working through challenging topics without judgement. Session timings can be tailored to what suits you.
