About Sam

As a recent university graduate, I am aware of the impact a good teacher can have on your love for and understanding of a subject. As a tutor, I am driven by the prospect of helping my tutees cultivate the same love I have for my subjects. By providing them with the support, encouragement and attention they require to realise their potential, I help my tutees achieve the grades they deserve. I set clear goals for my tutees, and we work hard together to achieve them, utilising a variety of learning techniques and approaches based on what works best for them. I am comfortable with all types of learners and levels of ability, including SEN children, with whom I have a wealth of experience. I’m a patient and determined tutor, and I recognise that there are many reasons why children underperform relative to their own abilities. I am committed to uncovering the sources of these issues and providing my tutees with the tools to overcome them without my help, so that they may continue to succeed throughout the rest of their lives.

I have experience tutoring IGCSE Maths, Physics and Chemistry throughout secondary school, in the form of weekly early-morning sessions. Each of my students grew to achieve an A/A*.

I also have experience teaching children for whom English is a second language. I taught a student from Beijing Further Maths A Level, who achieved consistent A grades in her practice tests while we worked together. I also worked at an English Language Leadership Camp for Brazilian students aged 12-14 in Boston, Massachusetts, where I taught public speaking, leadership and presentation skills.

Last year, I had an A Level Chemistry student who was predicted a C based on her Lower 6th mock results. After working together for less than two months, based on her improvement in her final mock exams, her prediction was increased from a C to an A. She subsequently received offers from every university she applied to.

Regarding hobbies, I am a keen musician - my main instrument is the drums, but I also play bass guitar. Last year I recorded drums for and co-produced an indie rock album which is out now on all music platforms. I played live gigs all over Chicago throughout my degree, and plan to continue this now I’ve moved back to London (once I find some people to play with!)
I love watching and playing sports - especially football and basketball. I’m a big Fulham fan, and I follow the Premier League and the NBA closely.
I’m also an avid cook, and have a vocational qualification in tap dancing.
