About Melissa

My name is Melissa, and I'm a Comparative Literature student at The University of Chicago. I grew up between Rio de Janeiro, Paris, and Miami, but I'm currently based in Houston on a gap year. I've always done everything to stay connected to my French background, and tutoring is a favorite! I've taught French for more than four years and will work with you to reach your goals.

About the lesson

My goal as a tutor is to target specific areas you want to improve on and help you feel connected to modern French culture! In our first meeting, we'll discuss where you're at in your learning and determine how we can maximize our time together. From there, I'll create personalized lesson plans around obtaining conversational skills, bettering listening, writing, grammar, expanding vocab, etc.

In 4 years of tutoring French, I've learned that keeping it fun makes learning a million times easier! I'll incorporate popular French media and cater my recommendations based on your personality and interests. I'm also a big believer in immersion-based learning— be prepared for the occasional no-English session!

Levels:
I teach all levels! Whether it's your first week tackling French vocab or you're in the middle of preparing for the AP exam, I'm here for you. I can also help college students in specialized literature/ media courses— writing analytical work in French can be tricky!

Qualifications:
- I grew up in Paris, France, and attended the bi-lingual École Jeannine Manuel
- Currently studying Comparative Literature at The University of Chicago with an emphasis on French literature and society
- 4+ years of tutoring languages (French, Portuguese, Chinese)
- Familiarity with AP and IB curriculums (scored a five on the AP French exam)
