About Francois

I have been tutoring in Paris for 4 years before moving to London. After a Baccalaureate in Literature with Honours, I went to Law School for two years before embracing an acting career. My meeting with the French Master and director Jean Laurent Cochet was an experience of searing intensity. He was the teacher of Gerard Depardieu, Jean Reno, Isabelle Huppert, among others. He made me work on classical and Post War authors from his own directing experience in France. He was nicknamed the "Soul Gardener" due to the depth and richness of his teaching. I learned from this experience that French is more enjoyable to learn if we manage to increase the awareness of its literary jewels, waiting to be discovered.

About the lesson

I offer a way to practise your French oral skills, confidence and general knowledge, relying on a wide range of soul awakening authors from the classical and contemporary French period. My way of teaching is intuitive and based on the curiosity and sensitivity of the student. We will define a scheme of objectives you would like to reach and we will work gradually, through conversations and texts I will send you prior to the lessons. From Molière to Sacha Guitry, short poems from Victor Hugo to the fables of Lafontaine and the simple prose of Péguy, the student will travel in a journey of discoveries and treasures that will stay, somehow in a corner of your mind. By this solid process the student will increase his curiosity, technical skills and trigger the will to learn more. The opportunity to rely on this wide repertoire will encourage the student to embrace with confidence all the tricks and complexities of the language.

Perfect! My partner and I wanted to work on our French pronunciation in particular, but also to read French literature. Francois has focused our lessons so far on a mixture of both, but with an emphasis on pronunciation. He has given very useful feedback and advice and has given us great tips and drills to help us improve. The lessons are well prepared and Francois is punctual and a good communicator. We're getting exactly what we wanted from these lessons.

I would recommend Francois very highly for three reasons:
1. I'm Scottish and he was able to understand my crazy accent which a lot of native English speakers have trouble with. This would be super useful for anyone who might be worried about their regional accent making it difficult to communicate with a tutor, let alone speak the language.

2. His vocabulary is so extensive that there are some words he uses in English that I've never heard before. He's very well read and it really benefits anyone seeking to learn from him.

3. He is very precise and deliberate. He is very intent on making sure the details matter, (which with any language there are many) and that they can be applied clearly and usefully.
