About Sami

My name is Sami Khayatei Houssaini. I lived in France from 2013 to 2021. I attended elementary school, middle school, and my freshman year at public schools. I moved back to the United States in August of 2021. I was enrolled in the AP French course at my high school where I received a 5 on my exam. I have been using my knowledge of French as a translator for an organization in my hometown called OASIS, which is working to advance girls' rights in the Sahel.

I believe that learning a foreign language is a wonderful thing that has so many advantages. I think that anyone can get to full fluency with enough work and enough time.

About the lesson

In my lessons, I would be immersing you in the French language and Francophone culture. My lessons will always contain a bit of grammar, vocabulary, reading, listening, speaking, and writing component. I will be basing these lessons on the way I was taught French in a French school.

Lessons will have a specific focus based on your needs and wants. For example, grammar lessons will involve detailed sentence micro-analysis, and macro-analysis, as well as conjugations and spelling. Sentence analysis is a very useful tool to understand syntax and improve it. Conjugations are the bane of the existence of all French speakers, native and non-native alike. An emphasis will be put on memorization and learning the basic structures. Spelling will be tested with dictées, which is when students need to write out a text that is spoken by the teacher. These texts will be chosen on grammatical complexity, spelling difficulty, and conjugations. These are great ways of improving grammar comprehension.

Reading and listening will always be done together. Readings will come from a variety of literary texts, as well as non-fiction, comic books, scientific texts, and many others. Listening will again from a variety of sources that include YouTube videos, movies, podcasts, audiobooks, interviews, news reports, etc. I will always try to highlight the diversity of the French language in the reading and listening lessons to give you a holistic view of the French language.

For writing and speaking lessons, we will be working on original composition. The writing and speaking lessons will always be linked with the grammar languages. For writing, you will have to write short stories, reports, articles, journals, and plays. For speaking, we will be doing presentations, where I will teach you vocab, techniques, and conventions of the French language. We will also act out scenes and engage in conversations.

I will also always try to sprinkle in a little bit of French history and French culture so that you will have a deeper understanding of this country and its language. I will also highlight the international nature of the French language with the choice of texts and documents.

What sets me apart from other tutors is that I have lived in France for 8 years and that I have gone to school there. I also have helped my classmates here in the US with French work and taught them a few concepts. I will be able to teach you French in a way that is very immersive and fun. I will always be calm, engaged, understanding, and proud of what you do.

I am offering lessons for all levels of French. From absolute beginners to halfway through your college course, I can help you get to where you want to be.
