About Tom

I am a recent graduate from Winchester College with a strong passion for the French language. I am a natural linguist and found very early on that French specifically was one which came easy to me. I truly believe anybody can learn a different language but only with the right help. What I wish to do is teach GCSE level to not only ensure a Grade 8 or above but also ignite a passion for continuing the language to A Level or even beyond. Having only recently graduated, I know exactly what exam boards are looking for and have experienced first-hand how they award marks and find candidates that stand out, so I am very passionate about helping my students be that candidate.

About the lesson

I received Grade 9 in IGCSE French and A* in A Level, and I am keen to help GCSE students gain a more secure grasp of all parts of the language which are tested.

My lessons concentrate on one aspect of the French language per lesson; speaking, listening, reading, writing and grammar. Depending on the topic, within a few lessons they can usually solve even the most challenging GCSE questions on that aspect.

Typical lesson length is 60 minutes. The marginal utility past that point tends to be very low as I try to keep every lesson engaging and enjoyable, as I believe information is only retained if it is taught in a memorable way.

During my time at Winchester College, I have prepared many pupils for public and non-public exams and they have received better marks than they expected as a result, so now I would like to extend this help to everyone who needs it.
