About Enrico

Hi everyone, thank you for your interest in the services I offer. I am Enrico, an Italian photographer based in London. I hold a bachelor's and a master's degree respectively in Anthropology and Social Anthropology. Currently, I am a keen freelance photographer, and I am studying and developing my visual storytelling skills in photojournalism. I get close to photography when I was fourteen and through the years firstly I studied it by myself and then I attended several courses as well. Right now I am enrolled in a part-time programme in Visual Storytelling within Photojournalism provided by the International Center of Photography (ICP). I got two diplomas as well from Magnum Photos attending their online classes. I have been academically trained to teach and I have about 1 year of teaching experience in both classes and face-to-face lessons. Thank you for looking at my profile and hope to hear from you soon, Enrico

I am glad to give a private lesson on photography to anyone, from beginners to advanced levels. The class will be conducted in English and it will be online. The hourly charge could be negotiable. I provide complete assistance to guide each student through photography teaching and covering theoretical and practical aspects. Even if the class is going to be set on Zoom or any other platform, I can move from theoretical class to cover practical tips for photo shooting and review with the student any technical sets in order to get confident with the camera and let the experience of shooting be as much enjoyable as it could. I provide tutoring even on editing especially with the use of Lightroom and Photoshop, since nowadays it is an essential tools for any photographer. In short, my goal is to provide the know-how to get familiar with photography in any of its own aspects; from shooting to the selection, from editing to sequencing a portfolio and from covering theoretical lacks to mastering the practical experience.

  • 1) When did you start practicing? How did this passion find you?

I started practising photography thirteen years ago during a very challenging moment. I was going through the process of a tough disease which stuck me at home for one and a half. At first, it was just a way to capture moments and emotions and distract me from all the things that were happening, but over time, it became something deeper—a means of storytelling which helped me to escape from all that. My passion for photography then grew naturally as I explored different styles and techniques learning as a self-taught person throughout the high school years. Then I choose to properly study photography getting a different diploma in that. The last one attending and following courses at the ICP – International Center of Photography. Eventually, this passion led me to work as a photojournalist and later as an online photography tutor.
  • 2) Which artists or works affect you the most?

Many photographers inspire me, from the great masters of photojournalism like Robert Doisneau, Joseph Koudelka or Sebastiao Salgado to contemporary photographers exploring new ways of visual storytelling such as Alec Soth of the Magnum Photo Agency or Francisco Proner, a friend of mine based in Rio de Janeiro. In the last few years, I also found a lot of inspiration in documentary photography, where every image carries a story and an emotion.
  • 3) What are the qualities and skills required to succeed in this area?

Success in photography requires a mix of technical skills, a creative attitude and a deep sense of curiosity. Mastering composition, light, and editing is essential, but so is developing a unique perspective on different subjects. Patience, perseverance and the ability to tell a story through images are just as important. In the case of photojournalism, being able to anticipate the right moment is crucial and a strong background in social studies disciplines such as anthropology could help to give further relevance to the story.
  • 4) What is the most valuable advice you can give to help someone stay focused on creative projects?

Stay curious and keep challenging yourself. Photography is an ever-evolving art, and inspiration comes from practice, observation, and experimentation. Something that helps me is to watch movies, go to exhibitions as well as speak with other people, older than me or with very different backgrounds which could help me to get new points of view or perspective on different topics. Eventually set goals, work on personal projects, and don't be afraid to step out of your comfort zone. Surround yourself with other creatives who can inspire and push you further.
  • 5) How would you describe your passion; how does it make you feel?

Photography is a way of seeing and interpreting the world. It's always been a tool to connect myself to people, and places, and deal with uncomfortable emotions. It's both an escape and a way to be fully present in the moment. When I have a camera in hand, I feel like I have the power to tell a story that might otherwise go unnoticed and at the same time therapeutically work on myself.
  • 6) What creative achievements are you particularly proud of?

I'm proud of my journey from enthusiast to professional, as well as my work in photojournalism. Capturing meaningful stories and having my images published has been a major achievement. Also, seeing my students grow and develop their skills through my tutoring is incredibly rewarding. Then in the last year, I became proud of my work since I've been selected by Canon among the best 100 photojournalists under35 and this led me to have a projection at the Photo Festival "Visa Pour l'Image" in Perpignan, France.
  • 7) Have you ever been surprised by a student; by their ability or quick progression?

Absolutely! Some students pick up concepts incredibly fast and develop their artistic style in a short time. It's always inspiring to see someone grow confident in their vision and take creative risks. Sometimes, their fresh perspective even teaches me something new.
  • 8) Being a Superprof is an art! What is your secret?

Passion and adaptability. Every student is different, and I always try to tailor my teaching to their needs, whether they're beginners or aspiring professionals. Encouraging creativity while providing solid technical foundations is key. Also, creating a supportive and motivating environment helps students feel confident to explore their potential. Last but not least, for me it's so important to spend time listening to the needs of my students, what they aim to do and which are their goals.
