About Jessica

Hello!
I am a fully qualified, passionate Foundation Phase educator dedicated to building confidence and a love for learning in young minds. I hold a Bachelor of Education (B.Ed) in Early Childhood Development and Foundation Phase, graduating Cum Laude, alongside a 120-hour TEFL Certificate completed with Distinction.

With over 5 years of professional, in-class teaching experience, I have a deep working knowledge of the CAPS curriculum. I specialise in the crucial early years where academic foundations are formed, offering expert, patient tuition and specialised intervention to support school success.

I offer targeted academic support in English Foundations (phonics, reading, and language skills), Afrikaans (First Additional Language fundamentals), and Early Maths concepts. Whether your child needs help bridging specific learning gaps, overcoming classroom challenges, or requires dedicated preparation for upcoming school tests and class presentations, I am here to help them thrive.

About the lesson

Every child learns differently, which is why I do not believe in a "one-size-fits-all" approach.
My teaching methodology is rooted in professional educational psychology and hands-on engagement:
* Play-Based & Concrete Learning: For early language, I use concrete objects, visual aids, and interactive tools before moving to abstract concepts on paper.
* Phonics-First Reading: I use structured synthetic phonics to give children the decoding tools they need to become fluent, independent readers in English.
* Positive Reinforcement: Building a child’s confidence is half the battle. My lessons are highly encouraging, structured, and designed to make mistake-making a safe, celebrated part of learning.
What to Expect in a Lesson:
My 60-minute lessons are high-energy, focused, and carefully paced to match a child's natural attention span:
00–10 mins: Dynamic warm-up game or interactive review of the previous lesson.
10–35 mins: Core concept introduction using bright visuals, stories, or digital manipulatives.
35–50 mins: Guided practice where your child applies the new skill with my step-by-step assistance.
50–60 mins: Fun wrap-up wrap activity, summary, and a brief feedback chat for parents.
