About Georgina

I have been teaching Spanish for 10 years. I started by offering private tutoring to other undergraduate students, and working as a Spanish Instructor in a language school for 3 years. I worked with people of all ages, knowledge levels and backgrounds.

After completing my BA in Spanish Language and Literature, I went to complete my MA in Spanish with emphasis on scholarly research, specializing in Spanish Linguistics and History of Romance Languages. I worked as an assistant lecturer for 4 years, teaching Spanish Syntax and History of Spanish. I am currently doing my PGCE in MFL. Parallel to my studies and work, I have been giving private tuition to students all over the world, helping beginners reach high levels of proficiency. My oldest students have been with me for 5 years and have recently gone to take DELE exams at C1 level.

I approach all my students as individuals and help them find their own identity in Spanish expression, where they feel secure, supported and engaged. My approach is personable, linked to culture and history, down-to-earth and very cognitive - I will make you think about the subject, and it is through that that you will learn.

About the lesson

As a linguist, I want my students to understand how the Spanish language functions, and not just learn to repeat it after me. In my teaching, there's no "because so" nor "because that's the rule" - everything in language has a reason for language is an intelligent system and an anthology of history and culture. I have found that once my students understand how a language functions and why, how it's been formed by history and how it exists within cultures, their learning is facilitated greatly and becomes an engaged, logical and fun process.
