About Halen
I am a former Marine Corps intelligence analyst who developed a love and fascination for Rome while playing the video game Rome Total War in the early 2000s. This lead me to eventually pursue a master's degree in classical history from American Military University. My bachelor's degree is in Intelligence Studies, from Mercyhurst University, and am qualified to tutor international relations, geopolitics, and political-military issues, in addition to history-related themes.

History doesn't have to be boring, rote memorization of dates and important people. Instead, it can be a fascinating exploration into how the past influences the present. I would like to help students not only make those connections, but develop an insatiable zeal and curiosity for history. My primary areas of interest are classical Mediterranean history and how pathogens such as malaria an Yersinia pestis have shaped human history. This subject matter is geared toward high school and undergraduate students, primarily those from non-humanities majors who yearn to understand the significance of history.
