About Zara

I am a Physics tutor with 9 years of experience and an MPhys degree with a distinction. I have taught over 360 students across all Physics levels from GCSE through undergraduate. My long teaching career has given me an exceptionally detailed understanding of the specific difficulties Physics students encounter at each level, which means I rarely encounter a student whose confusion I cannot pinpoint and address efficiently. I have worked with students who have improved by three or more grade boundaries within a single academic year through consistent, targeted work with me. About the lesson

My Physics teaching has been shaped by nine years of consistent observation of what produces genuine, measurable improvement in students who present at all starting levels, and the conclusion I have reached is that problem-solving practice with immediate detailed feedback is the single most effective learning activity for Physics students at every level. My lesson format reflects this: every session includes worked examples I demonstrate with explicit narration of my reasoning, followed by similar problems the student attempts while I observe and ask questions about their thinking, followed by targeted feedback on both correct and incorrect aspects of their approach. My approach to A-Level electromagnetism builds the conceptual framework of field theory carefully before addressing any specific applications, because students who understand that fields are the mechanism of electrical and magnetic interaction find all subsequent electromagnetism topics logically coherent where students without this framework find each topic an isolated memorisation task. I address the specific challenge of multi-step problems — questions requiring four or more distinct calculations in sequence — through practice with annotated stepwise solutions that show every intermediate result explicitly, because the most common error in complex Physics problems is a numerical mistake in an early step that propagates invisibly through all subsequent working. Astrophysics and cosmology are used as motivation throughout my teaching because the large-scale physical phenomena of the universe make the most abstract Physics concepts — nuclear reactions, electromagnetic radiation, gravitational theory — feel genuinely significant. My teaching goal is a student who improves both their mark and their genuine understanding of Physics simultaneously.
