About Alistair
With 13 years of experience teaching flute and over 150 students guided, I am a tutor who believes every student has unique musical potential. I teach all levels, from beginners to advanced learners, focusing on breath control, tone, finger technique, and rhythm, while also fostering creativity and expressive playing.
I personalise lessons to match each student’s learning style and goals, making progress consistent and enjoyable. I also integrate sight-reading, music theory, and ensemble practice to give students a complete understanding of music. My mission is to help students become confident, skilled, and inspired flautists who enjoy every step of their musical journey.

My flute teaching methodology focuses on creating a personalised, adaptable, and collaborative learning experience. I take the time to understand each student’s learning style and tailor lessons accordingly, ensuring that practice is effective, enjoyable, and meaningful.
Flexibility allows me to adjust exercises, repertoire, and lesson structures to match each student’s pace and goals. Collaboration is an integral part of my approach, with students participating in duets, ensemble exercises, and interactive sessions that enhance confidence, timing, and musical communication. Positivity is at the heart of my teaching, fostering a supportive environment where students feel encouraged to experiment, embrace challenges, and celebrate progress.
In addition to flute performance, I include instruction in music theory, rhythm, sight-reading, and ear training. This methodology nurtures technical skill, artistic expression, and musical understanding, guiding students to become confident, creative, and well-rounded musicians.
