Alla is one of our best Chinese tutors. High-quality profile and excellent qualifications, organised and responsive to lesson requests, appreciated by their students!

About Alla

Since a young age I have had an affinity for language learning and find great passion in being able to relay my language learning experiences and skills to others. In my 3 years of teaching experience I have worked with children, teens and adults, teaching Russian, German, French and Chinese. Languages have always come naturally to me ever since childhood as I grew up speaking two mother tongues, English and Russian. I have found that spotting links and patterns between various languages is the key to fluency and is exactly what I teach in my lessons. Through immersion in native Chinese media, I will get you to think in your target language. This is so that you stop translating in your head and hesitating every time you want to speak!

About the lesson

I am a fan of interactive lessons which are based on relevant content rather than textbook regurgitation. For languages it is especially efficient to learn through comprehensible input, not through rote learning or repetition. That is why I employ various different techniques such as shadowing, visual learning and contextual learning. I have successfully taken many language exams with the standard exam boards and therefore I am well-versed in the methods and techniques needed. Besides exam techniques I help students to develop their own natural understanding of the language so that they can use it without hesitating every second. My approach to language teaching is flexible and open-minded. My own personal experience of learning languages at school was terrible and convinced me that outdated teaching methods are the root cause of the UK's monolingualism. I do not believe that the UK is inherently monolingual and I am on a mission to change this. My lessons target the commonly weak faculties of foreign language; Speaking and Listening. I make content relevant and memorable to the student and enable comprehensive input to get your child speaking and listening with confidence.

I have been learning with Alla for 10 months and my language skills have improved tremendously!

Her method of teaching is like no other I’ve experienced. Particularly, her emphasis on learning based on native media and real-world usage of the language, rather than leaning heavily on textbooks, gave me a deeper understanding of how native speakers use the language on a daily basis. Plus, it gave me the confidence to talk with native speakers immediately!

And yes, she also possesses the qualities that make a great teacher: patient, compassionate, a deep understanding of her subject, and the ability to explain it clearly. Can’t recommend her enough!

Alla was supoer helpful with my son Sam. He came in with a C predicted for his German GCSE and within 6 months of lessons was on track for an A. Seems like schools just aren't teaching them correctly!

What’s great about Alla’s lessons is the unconventional approach to language learning. I’ve had issues with traditional teaching styles in schools and Alla’s techniques really helped me to take a new perspective when acquiring a new language!

My son has had so many problems with his French GCSE in school and I thought it would be a hopeless case. But after some lessons with Alla I was so surprised that he was speaking confidently and it seemed like the language finally made sense to him! Definitely recommend Alla’s unique methods!

Where do start!? Alla is so helpful when it comes to details that are usually disregarded by standard tutoring programmes, such as accent and intonation. I’ve never known of the contextual acquisition technique and it’s really helped my daughter with her GCSE German predicted grade. She’s not a natural linguist but with Alla’s help we boosted it from a C to an A! Highly recommended!
