About Anushka

I’ve always loved History and really enjoyed studying it at GCSE and A-Level. I remember finding essays and exam technique difficult myself, but once I worked out how to approach them, everything started to click and I enjoyed the subject so much more.

I’m now studying Law at university, and I’d love to help other students get that same breakthrough by helping in building their confidence, improving their exam technique and hopefully actually enjoying History along the way!

About the lesson

GCSE and A-Level History courses are designed in a way where most students will be confident with the content itself, but may find it challenging to effectively apply their knowledge in essays and exam questions. This is where I aim to help students potentially improve by multiple grades.

I offer flexible tutoring focused on developing the key skills needed for scoring top marks in essays, tailored to each student's individual needs.

1 hour lessons:

• Essay structure and planning
• Building strong arguments and judgements
• Developing analysis rather than description (this can be the difference between a B and an A*!)
• Using evidence effectively
• Exam and source technique
• Analysing model answers and comparing these to exam board mark schemes

Shorter 30 minute feedback sessions are also available. Students can send me an essay beforehand, which I will mark prior to the lesson. We can then discuss the feedback, identify areas for improvement and practise applying it by rewriting paragraphs or completing targeted exercises. This feedback can also be included in 1 hour lessons, depending on the students’ needs.

My aim is to help students transform their content knowledge into confident, analytical and high-quality exam answers.

A-Level Coursework:
These sessions can also be used for supporting students’ coursework, which makes up a proportion of their final A-Level grade. Please keep in mind that I must keep this guidance within exam board regulations, therefore whilst I can give feedback on how to improve, I cannot rewrite entire sections of the work itself.

I am most familiar with the Edexcel exam board, but the skills required for GCSE and A-level are ultimately the same across all the exam boards. Please let me know in advance what board and modules are being taken so I can prepare accordingly.
