I have had the pleasure of teaching Gabriel on my module "Determinants of Democracy" at the University of Warwick. The module takes a comparative, empirical approach to studying various democratization theories and requires students to conduct their own, individual research project as their assessment. Gabriel investigated the validity of modernization theory in South-East Asia, using advanced statistical methods. His assessment was outstanding and achieved one of the highest marks ever awarded on the module.
