Your lesson will be focused on the areas of academic work that you currently require support with. Students often struggle with the concept of critical analysis and reviewing literature which will be thoroughly explored during sessions. Additionally, I will provide you with tips and tricks of finding the most relevant, up-to-date and quality academic evidence that is required for your work.

I can provide support with essay/assignment planning, draft feedback, preparation for verbal presentation, general help with summative and formative assessments as well as MCQ exams, anatomy and physiology. I also have extensive knowledge in pharmacology and independent prescribing (V200).

During our lesson we will discuss main themes and ideas of your assignment and how to present them in a logical and structured way. I will not edit your assignment for grammar or punctuation, this is not an English lesson! I can remind you, however to pay attention to such details.

Assignment planning takes around 1.5-2 hours and you receive a plan and overview of your learning outcomes and what you need to include in your essay. At each lesson you also receive lesson notes which include all we talked about during lesson and also additional reading you can do after the lesson to help your studies.

I will not accept any requests for lessons in regards to essays or dissertations that are incomplete and due in less than 2 weeks and without previous contact. Improving your work requires you to be responsible and manage your time accordingly.

I DO NOT WRITE ESSAYS, so please do not ask for this. This is against nursing professional conduct and ultimately submitting someone else's work is unethical, dishonest and does not improve your practice.

My lessons are suitable for students in Access to HE in Nursing Diploma and university nursing students from all fields, including adult, paediatrics, mental health, learning disabilities as well as midwifery, psychology, OT, health and social care up to a Bachelor's degree, with the exception of students taking a postgraduate module V200 in Independent prescribing.

Details

First 30 minutes are free only when booking 1.5-2 hours.

Please contact me (6-7 days) in advance to secure your lesson as I am tutoring as well as working full-time.

Full Draft reviews will be charged according to word count. 1000 words is charged at £15. I will include feedback and recommendations, however I WILL NOT WRITE YOUR ESSAY, you need to present your own original work which will eventually improve your practice as a registered nurse.

I can provide additional feedback (free of charge) following the lesson in the form of answering short questions and clarifying, however this is not normally required as everything will be discussed during lesson and in your lesson notes. I will only answer questions 48 hours following our session as it is only fair to the other students that are not receiving extra time.

Find out more about Mariela

  • When did you develop an interest in your chosen field and in private tutoring?

I was in a peer support group in university. This was when I developed an interest in teaching. It allowed me to help fellow students and future practitioners improve their work, but it also enabled me to gain further knowledge and understanding of the topics discussed and improve my own practice.
  • Tell us more about the subject you teach, the topics you like to discuss with students (and possibly those you like a little less).

My passion wasn't always nursing. Nursing is in fact my second degree. I initially graduated from Manchester University in Politics and International Relations, however I did not find my prospects challenging enough so I was looking to pursue something new. Nursing gave me a sense of purpose and I find that every shift is different and I learn something new and exciting or at times funny each day. I really enjoy relating theory to practice and discussing anything to do with management and leadership.
  • Did you have any role models; a teacher that inspired you?

The main people that have inspired me have been my clinical practice mentors. All dedicated, passionate and extremely professional. This is who got me through hours of unpaid practice placements as a student and several assignments hanging over my head.
  • What do you think are the qualities required to be a good tutor?

No one knows EVERYTHING. For me, it is important to be self-aware and understand my own limitations. Good communication is key as well as working together as a team with my students.
  • Provide a valuable anecdote related to your subject or your days at school.

''You have been working flat out all day (or night) without even a coffee break, but the moment you sit down, your supervisor walks around the corner and sees you doing nothing.''
  • What were the difficulties or challenges you faced or still facing in your subject?

The challenges are many, but I like to focus on the positives of making a difference in people's life when at work and education when tutoring.
  • Do you have a particular passion? Is it teaching in general or an element of the subject or something completely different?

Nursing is my job and I love it. Tutoring is an interesting development to my current life which I thoroughly enjoy, however travel has always been my passion.
  • What makes you a Superprof (besides answering this interview questions :-P) ?

My commitment to helping students reach their full potential.
