About Nikita

My name is Nikita and I live in South Africa. I chose teaching as a profession because I love the impact one can have on individual children, especially here at the elementary level. Of course, it’s a great responsibility, but at the same time, I cannot imagine devoting my life to something else, especially since I love being around children—which is likely the second reason why I want to be a teacher. In my view, teaching is more a mission than a job really, especially in the uncertain times we live nowadays. I cannot wait to start working as a teacher. 7 sample answers to “Why do you want to be a teacher?” interview question I chose teaching as a profession because I love the impact one can have on individual children, especially here at the elementary level. I want to become a teacher because I believe I have the right skills, abilities, and attitude to become a good teacher. And I enjoy teaching, talking to children, listening to them, trying to understand their emotional world, and being a good role model for them. At the end of the day, we should do a job in which we see some meaningful purpose. I know that I could earn twice as much working in some big corporation analyzing some data or sitting at a computer programming another mobile application, the billionth on the app store…. But I just don’t see a point in such type of work. Teaching is a completely different story.

Incorporate Mystery Into my Lessons Learning may be the most fun for my students when they don't know what to expect. I try to incorporate a sense of surprise and mystery into my lessons. When I'm about to unveil a new lesson, give students a new clue each day up until the last day before the start of the lesson. This is a fun way to make my lesson mysterious, and I may find that my students are actually looking forward to finding out what they'll be learning about next. Create Classroom Games Whether you're 5 or 25, playing a game can be fun. Games are also a great way to keep lessons interesting. If my students need to remember their spelling words, conduct a spelling bee—a contest in which participants are eliminated when they misspell a word. Or if the students need to practice math, have a math bee, which is similar to a spelling bee, but with math problems or facts instead of spelling words. Games make learning fun, and games in class are a prescription for happy kids. Use Technology Technology is a great way to keep my lessons interesting. Children love electronics, so try incorporating it into my overall teaching strategy. Instead of standing in front of the room and lecturing, try using a Smartboard interactive display. Expand my cooperative learning activity lessons by connecting to a classroom in another city or country via videoconferencing. Use technology in a variety of ways, and I see the interest level in my classroom increase by leaps
