About Laura

Hello! I'm Laura, a final year student at the University of Edinburgh, studying International Business and Spanish. Languages have always been my passion—I studied Spanish, French, and Italian at GCSE level. Among them, Spanish stood out to me with its warm and exciting nature, eccentric vocabulary, and vibrant culture, which inspired me to pursue it through A Levels and into my degree.

During my third year at university, I had the privilege of being selected for an exchange program at Spain's leading business school, ICADE, owing to my strong performance in language examinations. Immersed in the culture, I found immense inspiration and hope to pass that enthusiasm on to others interested in this language.

Reflecting on my own GCSE and A Level experiences, I realised the need for more practice, especially in speaking and answering questions confidently. My aim is to create a supportive environment where I encourage students to develop and nurture these skills, empowering them to approach their exams with the necessary confidence and expertise for success.

About the lesson

I aim to provide lessons that will be either an hour or two hours long, targeting those studying for their GCSEs and A Levels.

A little about my Spanish experience...
I have achieved top grades in GCSE and A Level Spanish (Grade 9 in GCSE and A* in A Level). I spent my third year of university living in Madrid where I was fully immersed in both the language and the culture which led to language fluency. I studied at the leading Spanish business school (ICADE) and achieved top grades in all of my courses which I undertook in Spanish. Furthermore I am on track to finish my degree in July with first class honours after completing my Spanish education.

Drawing from my recent experience in sitting the new style exams for languages, I will structure my lessons around the syllabus to ensure students are thoroughly prepared. The lessons will be highly interactive, as I've discovered that building confidence in speaking, reading, writing, and listening is crucial for success in GCSE/A Level examinations. Throughout the sessions, we will address each component that constitutes the examinations. Specifically, I will assist in constructing speaking exam answers, provide useful writing phrases to enhance grades, and offer ample practice in grammar and vocabulary. Moreover, as the exam date approaches, I will guide students through past papers to ensure they feel confident in handling similar problems independently.
