About Neo

I am a final year Education student registered with SIAS, with one year private tutoring experience both online and contact sessions. My majors are English Home Language (passed with 73%) and School ICT support (Passed with a distinction) allowing me to teach CAT .

About the lesson

My teaching methodology is based on an authentic learner centered approach. I establish the learner's existing knowledge and adapt the content to make it more relatable to the learner's contexts. This method also helps identify potential barriers and key areas to focus on when engaging with the content.

I like to create an environment of care therefor use a pedagogy of care to ensure that learners are comfortable enough to actively participate in the lesson. This includes telling the learners a little bit about myself to make myself more relatable.

When teaching a new concept I prefer establishing what the learners know about the topic or what they think it is about. This helps to identify their existing knowledge and thinking. I usually do this by asking a variety of questions such as: What is a figure of speech?
I then engage the lesson by making reference to the prescribed textbook and using practical examples of the use of figures of speech in everyday life.
The lesson conclusion is to sum up the content by means of a brief overview of the content covered. Then I require learners to reflect on the new knowledge and how it links to their life by asking questions like: where would you use a figure of speech or why would one use a figure of speech.
