About Ananya

I am currently a BSc Mathematics with Finance and Economics student. Maths has always come quite naturally to me; that is not to say I haven’t had to put the work in, so I have spent years figuring out what methods work best for me! I did my maths GCSE a year early (year 10) and achieved a 9, completing all the content within a school year. After that, it seemed quite natural to carry on with GCSE further maths and then eventually A level maths and further maths. Ever since I figured out a way to really understand maths I have always wanted to share my knowledge and experiences so that students can avoid making the same mistakes I did and learn to love the subject!

About the lesson

My approach would be to first figure out the way you learn most effectively and build a study plan around it (not everyone learns the same way!). You will be at ease knowing that I am willing to work at your pace while ensuring you achieve the best grade possible! I will first ensure your conceptual knowledge is flawless; this will allow us more time to practice exam style questions which we will eventually do under timed conditions. As a student of mathematics myself I do understand the pressures and anxieties of being in an exam and I have found that simulating that environment way beforehand is the most effective way to achieve your potential!

Perfect! Had a couple lessons now with Ananya! She an excellent tutor with a great way of teaching new ideas, very friendly and has given extra work to do outside of lesson which she has sorted in her own time! Couldn’t recommend enough!

When did you develop an interest in your chosen field and in private tutoring?
I've always been passionate about maths and have long wanted to help kids discover that magical connection with the subject-showing them how it can illuminate everyday life.
Tell us more about the subject you teach, the topics you like to discuss with students (and possibly those you like a little less).
I tutor GCSE Maths, covering everything from algebra, geometry, and probability to my absolute favourite, calculus. I love exploring how these topics relate to real-world applications and spark curiosity.
Did you have any role models; a teacher that inspired you?
My GCSE Maths teacher was a true inspiration-she helped me finish my exam a year early and made me fall in love with maths through her passion and encouragement.
What do you think are the qualities required to be a good tutor?
A good tutor needs patience, adaptability, and empathy, along with the creativity to break down complex ideas into relatable, engaging lessons.
Provide a valuable anecdote related to your subject or your days at school.
One of my most memorable moments was during my early GCSEs when I managed to finish two years' worth of maths in just a few months-a true lightbulb moment that revealed how clear, passionate teaching can transform understanding.
What were the difficulties or challenges you faced or still facing in your subject?
At university, I've encountered challenges with abstract theories and complex problem-solving, which have pushed me to continuously refine my approach and find creative ways to make tough concepts clear.
Do you have a particular passion? Is it teaching in general or an element of the subject or something completely different?
I'm passionate about helping people succeed and love tailoring my explanations to different learning styles. Nothing beats seeing a student's face light up when they finally grasp a concept!
