Film Editing Lessons with Final Cut Pro by experienced London based former BBC filmmaker

I recently switched from Premier Pro to Final Cut Pro and needed to learn how to navigate the differences. Allan was the perfect guide for me. He was patient, calm and brilliant at second guessing my needs, but most importantly he gave me the confidence to complete an important job, whilst keeping me focused on the creative, without getting lost in the tech. I still have lots to learn, but it'll be a pleasure to do so with Allan.

Now that we have the benefit of Zoom and can tap into worldwide expertise, it widens the search for excellent teachers. After extensive searches, I was very fortunate to have found Mr. Burr to teach my daughter Final Cut Pro. He is extremely knowledgable and engaging, but perhaps most importantly he really enjoys the teaching process. He plans thoroughly for each lesson as well as assigns thoughtful homework. After almost completing 10 sessions, my daughter requested another 10 because she is learning and enjoying them so much. Thank you!

I had half a dozen lessons with Allan, and he's such a good teacher the I felt I didn't need any more! I may well go back for a refresher at some point. Allan is clear, straightforward, patient, and only focused on specifically what I was trying to achieve.

Allan very patiently showed us the basics of how a camera worked and then on a photo safari in London where we learned how to take artistic images using the skills he had taught us. It wasn’t all about camera technique, a lot of the time we were considering composition. We have both captured some really interesting shots which - after some digital editing - we are delighted with. I contacted Allan as I needed some advice on the practicalities of self-shooting. I needed help specifically with what equipment was best suited to my needs, camera work and audio recording.

Allan initially came up with a very detailed schedule of what our lessons would look like. The first few were theory and the last few were a practical session in which we met up and made a short film together. It was exactly what i was looking for and the process has helped me immensely.

Allan is very patient and was great at making sure I understood what he meant before he moved on to the next topic. He was very flexible and would always reply to any questions I might send him over email. He is extremely knowledgeable and has had a very interesting career, which he draws on to provide lessons through example.

I would really recommend Allan to anyone looking to improve their skills in this industry, and know i will be going back to him if I ever need another lesson!

I had a six-hour stint of being taught editing on Final Cut Pro. As a teacher, Allan was very knowledgeable and excellent at imparting what he knew. He tailored his teaching to my particular needs skilfully.
