About Nicholas

I’m an extremely personable and successful Communicator and Teacher of English Language GCSE. Unlike other tutors I don’t teach multiple subjects. I have a wealth of experience as a volunteer and professional tutor and understand the need to make the subject matter relevant and entertaining in order to engage the attention and interest of my pupils.
I am especially effective in strategies for students who may be falling behind their expectations to improve by at least a couple of grades (which may make all the difference). I have an impeccable first class academic background but always remember that effective teaching starts with the needs and ability of the pupil. I always go the extra mile to ensure each lesson is tailored around those precise requirements.
The feedback I have received is that pupils respond particularly well to my use of humour, and greatly value the extra efforts I go to get to know them and understand how they can best improve.

About the lesson

Effective tutoring in my experience depends on establishing the trust and confidence of the pupil in my ability to lead them to a deeper understanding of the subject and moreover to be able to demonstrate that superior depth under exam conditions. I firmly believe that to prepare for the highest grade outcomes pupils need to practise under quasi-exam conditions while learning effective exam technique is just as important as studying the syllabus thoroughly. After all the ultimate measure of tutorial success is achieving the best possible academic outcome!
