About Sham

My journey is defined by a commitment to academic distinction and a passion for empowering others. I began with straight A and A* grades in CIE A-Level Accounting, Business, and Economics accordingly, which then paved the way for full-ride scholarship to an international Japanese university. I graduated as Valedictorian for my BBA and again at the top of my MBA class, receiving the prestigious ‘Ando Momofuku Honor Prize’ in Japan for my contributions to education and mentoring. Throughout my studies, I served as a University Teaching Assistant and worked as a private tutor for high school students. I consistently received positive feedback from my students, who commended the effort I put into preparing personalized lesson plans and the ad hoc support I provided during high-pressure exam seasons. They valued my commitment to being accessible for questions even outside of scheduled hours, ensuring they always felt supported. The true reward of this experience has been witnessing their immense progress and seeing the successful paths they have taken in their lives today

My professional career spans over eight years across Japan, Hong Kong, Singapore, and the Middle East. I have held roles as a Cost and Project Accountant at multinational corporations and, most recently, as the APAC Lead Financial Research Analyst at Bloomberg L.P. Now I am based in New Zealand with my family and operating my own business.

My desire to teach stems from a lifelong passion for mentorship—whether training analysts in the corporate world or tutoring students globally. I don’t just teach theory; I provide the real-world context and structured thinking I’ve gained from the front lines of international finance. My goal is to help students navigate their academic challenges with confidence, offering them the high-level preparation and practical wisdom that helped me succeed both in the classroom and the boardroom.

About the lesson

My methodology is to initially discuss with the student on areas or concepts they struggle with or need more practice, then I teach the concept with tailored explanations using real-world examples from current global news and my past experience. I then deconstruct past paper questions on that concept until the student achieves complete confidence in that area. However, recognizing that every learner is unique, I constantly adapt my teaching style to match the student’s individual pace and progress. I offer flexible 1-hour or 1.5-hour sessions, available both face-to-face and online.

As an A and A* CIE achiever myself, an international University Teaching Assistant and private tutor for over six years, I am well-versed in exam preparation for Cambridge Exams and provide free guidance on university transitions and expectations to all my students. For those on the NCEA curriculum, I provide specialized support for internal report writing. By drawing on my 8 years of experience as a qualified accounting and finance professional working for global multinational companies such as Bloomberg and Nippon Steel Corporation, I teach students how to structure their answers effectively while demonstrating how these academic concepts apply in the professional world.
