About Alaina
I am a piano tutor with 9 years of experience and a Bachelor of Music in Classical Piano. I have guided over 250 students from young beginners to advanced adult learners across classical, jazz, pop, and contemporary piano styles. My lessons cover sight reading, chord work, improvisation, music theory, composition, and examination preparation for ABRSM and Rockschool boards. I am deeply committed to helping every student develop a genuine and personal relationship with the piano. My approach is patient, structured, and always personalised to the individual student's pace, goals, and musical interests. I use backing tracks, ear training tools, and composition apps to keep sessions engaging and musically stimulating. My piano lessons are built around developing technique, musical theory, and expressive playing simultaneously in an integrated and genuinely enjoyable way. Every session begins with scales, arpeggios, and targeted technique exercises appropriate to the student's current level and specific goals to build a healthy and consistent technical foundation. Music theory is taught continuously alongside practical playing so students develop genuine musical understanding that deepens naturally as their playing skills improve and grow. Jazz students explore chord voicings, extended harmonies, improvisation over standard progressions, and the rhythmic feel and swing that makes jazz piano come alive. Classical students follow carefully graded repertoire alongside supporting studies and technique work appropriate to their examination level and musical development. Pop and contemporary students learn chord-based playing, song accompaniment, and the rhythmic feel that makes modern piano styles sound musical and authentic. I use backing tracks consistently to develop timing, musicality, and the ability to play with genuine groove and musical sensitivity at every level. Composition is offered to students who want to express their own musical creativity, starting with simple chord progressions and developing progressively into more complete and personal original works. Detailed written practice notes are provided after every lesson so students always have a clear and productive routine to follow at home. My goal is for every student to become a genuinely confident, expressive, and joyful pianist.
