About Tess

I am a dedicated flute tutor with over 12 years of teaching experience, working with school students, college learners, and working professionals. My teaching approach is structured and practical, focusing on strong fundamentals. I begin with breathing techniques, correct posture, embouchure control, finger coordination, and rhythm accuracy.

Once students build confidence, I introduce articulation, dynamics, and expressive playing. Along with practical flute lessons, I teach music theory, sight reading, scale practice, ear training, and rhythm exercises to ensure complete musical understanding. I customise each lesson according to the student’s goals and pace.

My unique strength is guiding students to develop a clear tone and smooth finger transitions. I also help students prepare for exams, performances, and competitions. My aim is to make flute learning disciplined, enjoyable, and rewarding.

About the lesson

My flute teaching methodology is grounded in Adaptation to Learning Styles, Flexibility, Collaboration, and Positivity. I believe that personalised guidance leads to confident and capable musicians.

I begin by understanding each student’s musical background and learning preference. Some students benefit from structured theory-based explanations, while others learn more effectively through listening and repetition. I adapt my teaching style to match their needs.

Flute lessons focus on breath control, embouchure development, posture alignment, tone production, finger coordination, articulation clarity, and rhythm accuracy. I break techniques into manageable steps to ensure clear understanding and steady progress.

Flexibility allows me to adjust lesson plans according to student goals. Whether preparing for exams, competitions, performances, or personal enjoyment, I tailor practice routines and repertoire accordingly.

Collaboration is encouraged through open discussions, duet practice, and goal setting. Students are guided to take ownership of their musical growth.

Positivity is essential in my sessions. I create a supportive environment where students feel motivated and confident. Alongside flute, I teach music theory, sight-reading, rhythm studies, ear training, and performance techniques for complete musical development.
