I have been teaching science in both independent and state sectors for the last eleven years. I believe the purpose of education is not just imparting a bunch of data but to inculcate an ability to think with the data. I have tutored students for KS3, GCSE and A-level and all of the students have reported improved grades and better understanding. I am an examiner with an international examination board and can help students with exam techniques. The students who I tutored in A-level got into their desired university with really good grades.

  • 1) When did you develop an interest in your chosen field and in private tutoring?

    1) My interest in education began early in life. Growing up in India, I witnessed firsthand how academic failure could lead to significant emotional and economic consequences for families. This made me question how education systems could better support young people, particularly those most vulnerable. Even as a student, I had a natural inclination toward explaining difficult concepts to my peers in ways they could understand, and teachers often asked me to mentor classmates who were struggling.
    This passion evolved further when I co-founded a non-profit organisation in Delhi dedicated to educating young people about human rights. It was during this time—through engaging with young minds on important social issues—that I realised teaching was my true vocation. After moving to the UK, I formally trained as a science teacher, and I’ve been in the profession for over a decade now.

    I started private tutoring in 2013 alongside my classroom teaching. The motivation came from a desire to offer more personalised support to students than is sometimes possible in a larger classroom setting. Tutoring has allowed me to directly address individual learning barriers and witness the impact of tailored guidance. It’s both fulfilling and closely aligned with my broader goal of educational improvement.
  • 2) Tell us more about the subject you teach, the topics you like to discuss with students (and possibly those you like a little less).

    2) The topics I most enjoy teaching are those that connect science to real-life applications and broader societal themes. For instance, I love discussing genetics, environmental chemistry, and human physiology—topics that spark curiosity and often lead to deep conversations about ethics, sustainability, and the future of science in society. I also enjoy helping students think critically about scientific data and evidence—skills that I believe are essential in today’s world.

    That said, topics involving rote memorisation—such as certain parts of organic chemistry or plant classification—tend to be less enjoyable for me. However, I take this as a challenge to find creative, visual, or story-based ways to make these areas engaging and accessible. What drives me most is the moment when a student who has been struggling suddenly “gets it”—that spark of understanding never gets old.
  • 3) Did you have any role models; a teacher that inspired you?

    3) Yes, two teachers in particular stand out as role models who deeply influenced my journey into education.

    My English teacher in primary school embodied kindness and grace. She was always willing to listen to us, no matter how small the issue. Her classroom felt like a safe space, and we knew we could talk to her about anything. It was her empathy and warmth that showed me how important emotional connection is in the teaching profession.

    Later, in my final year of school, my maths teacher inspired me in a very different way. He had exceptional subject knowledge but more importantly, he had the rare ability to break down complex mathematical concepts into simple, engaging explanations. His clarity and passion made even the most difficult topics seem accessible and interesting.

    Together, they taught me that good teaching is both an art and a science—balancing deep knowledge with emotional intelligence. Their influence continues to guide my own practice today.
  • 4) What do you think are the qualities required to be a good tutor?

    4) I believe a good tutor needs to combine subject expertise with emotional intelligence. It's not enough to just know the material—you must be able to meet the student where they are, identify gaps in understanding, and adapt your explanations accordingly. Patience is key, especially when working with students who may lack confidence or have had negative experiences with learning in the past.

    Empathy also plays a crucial role. Many students I tutor are dealing with anxiety, academic pressure, or self-doubt. A good tutor needs to create a space where students feel safe to ask questions and make mistakes.

    Equally important are clarity of communication and creativity. The ability to explain difficult ideas in multiple ways—whether through analogies, visuals, or real-life examples—can make all the difference in a student’s learning.

    Finally, consistency and encouragement matter. A good tutor not only helps students improve academically but also builds their confidence and motivation over time.
  • 5) Provide a valuable anecdote related to your subject or your days at school.

    5) I remember a chemistry practical session at school where we had to carry out qualitative analysis. I was eager but made several mistakes and didn’t record my observations properly. Unsurprisingly, my results were incorrect, and I left the lab feeling deflated. It really knocked my confidence.

    The next time we had a similar practical, I approached it differently. I followed each instruction methodically, ensured no cross-contamination, and carefully recorded my observations as I went along. That time, I got the results right.

    That moment taught me something far more valuable than just chemistry—it taught me that failure is part of learning. It’s not the end, but a signal to adjust, reflect, and improve. It’s a mindset I carry into my teaching and tutoring today: encouraging students to embrace mistakes as stepping stones toward mastery.
  • 6) What were the difficulties or challenges you faced or still facing in your subject?

    6) One of the biggest challenges I’ve faced—both as a student and a teacher—has been the abstract nature of certain scientific concepts. Topics like chemical bonding, equilibrium, or stoichiometry can be difficult for students to visualise and often lead to frustration. Early in my own learning, I remember struggling to fully grasp how particles interact at the microscopic level—it felt disconnected from the real world.

    As a teacher, I’ve come to realise that these same hurdles exist for many of my students. Helping them overcome these conceptual barriers requires creativity and constant adaptation. I often use analogies, models, and real-life examples to make abstract ideas more concrete. Even then, it's not always easy. Every student learns differently, and what works for one might not work for another.

    Another ongoing challenge is helping students manage their fear of failure—especially in science, where one wrong step in a calculation or practical can throw everything off. A big part of my work is about building resilience and confidence alongside subject knowledge.

    Despite these challenges, I find teaching science incredibly rewarding. Each difficulty is also an opportunity to innovate, reflect, and grow—as both an educator and a learner.
  • 7) Do you have a particular passion? Is it teaching in general or an element of the subject or something completely different?

    7) At the heart of it, my passion has always been helping people—especially young people who are still finding their place in the world. Teaching is one of the most empowering ways to do that. What excites me most is not just passing on information, but equipping students with the tools to think critically, question the world around them, and solve problems independently.

    These are survival skills in today’s fast-changing world. When students master these abilities, they’re not just prepared for exams—they’re prepared for life. Whether it’s through a lesson on genetics or a conversation during tutoring, I’m passionate about helping learners build confidence in their thinking and take ownership of their learning.

    That’s why teaching is not just a profession for me—it’s a vocation. It aligns with my lifelong desire to be part of something that creates lasting, meaningful impact.

    8) What makes me a Superprof is not just my experience, but the intent and care I bring to every lesson. I’ve been teaching and tutoring for over a decade, and I approach each student as an individual—with their own learning style, challenges, and strengths. I listen, I adapt, and I explain concepts in ways that make sense to them.

    As both a qualified teacher and an examiner for Cambridge and Edexcel, I understand how to bridge the gap between knowledge and performance. But beyond that, I create a safe, encouraging space where students feel comfortable asking questions and making mistakes. That’s where real learning happens.

    My goal is not just academic improvement, but transformation—helping students become more confident, independent thinkers. I truly care about their success, and I believe that’s what sets me apart.
