About Mariama

I am an English major with both an undergraduate degree and a Master’s in English, as well as being a fully qualified primary school teacher. My academic background has given me a deep understanding of the English language, and I’m passionate about helping young learners build strong literacy skills from the ground up. I currently tutor KS2 and KS3 students at a tutoring centre on weekends, with a special focus on preparing pupils for the 11+ exams—particularly in comprehension and creative writing. My teaching style is structured, supportive, and tailored to each child’s unique learning needs. Whether your child needs help with grammar, reading, writing, or exam preparation, I’m here to guide them with patience, encouragement, and expertise. My goal is always to help students feel confident, capable, and ready to succeed.

About the lesson

My English lessons for primary students are carefully planned to build strong foundations in reading, writing, grammar, and comprehension. Each session is structured to meet your child’s individual needs and learning style, whether they need support catching up, stretching ahead, or preparing for exams like the 11+. I begin each lesson by introducing a clear learning objective, followed by a teaching segment where I explain the topic using examples and guided practice. Students then have the chance to apply what they’ve learned through targeted exercises, writing tasks, or comprehension activities. I provide constructive feedback, correct misunderstandings, and offer strategies to help them improve and gain confidence. My lessons are engaging, supportive, and tailored to each child’s pace. I cover all areas of the KS2 English curriculum, and I’m happy to adjust the focus depending on your child’s specific goals—whether it’s mastering punctuation, building creative writing skills, improving reading fluency, or preparing for the 11+. If you're based near Bradford (BD9), I also offer in-person lessons and can travel locally for added convenience.
