About Henrietta (Hattie)
I am an Art History and Fine Art tutor with over 15 years of experience working with ages 16-21+, primarily at A level and Undergraduate level. I consider myself an enthusiastic, rigorous and highly motivating tutor. History of Art: - BA and MA - A-Level/Pre U - UCAS/Oxbridge Entry - Dissertations and coursework - General mentorship I have experience tutoring History of Art with all major exam boards. I also have a solid track record tutoring students for entry to Oxford and Cambridge in Arts, Humanities and Social Sciences, as well as other Russell Group & Ivy League universities. After my BA at Oxford in 2013 I completed an MA in Art History at the Courtauld Institute of Art, awarded distinction. My research specialised in post-war & contemporary photography and ecology, and I am especially interested in overlaps between art and science. As a published writer, researcher, and exhibiting fine artist, I bring a great depth of understanding to the subject. I offer tuition across all periods and media. I also offer academic coaching and support in academic writing and coursework in the humanities more broadly, as my BA was in the Human Sciences - an especially broad background for an Art Historian. I have tutored students at universities including Oxford, Cambridge, The Courtauld, Bristol, Exeter, Edinburgh, LCC, London Met, CSM and Stanford. Fine Art: - BA and MA - A level/Pre U - GCSE I have tutored students in Fine Art from GCSE to A level and beyond, including a number of adult learners. I have also long-term experience in working with neurodivergent students as an art tutor. I have supported portfolio development for students who have gone on to secure places at prestigious art schools in London and in the US.

As a tutor my aim is to ensure students attain the highest academic results they are capable of. Part of this involves finding ways - both through coaching methods and more traditional tutoring approaches - to cultivate the student's motivation and curiosity about the subject. As well as exam-focused support, I work with students on essay writing and research skills at A level and undergraduate level. My approach is highly structured, meaning you will have clear goals and milestones to work towards. I'm an enthusiastic and warm tutor and provide support in between sessions if required. I usually work on a weekly basis with students, primarily online. Over the past 13 years I have also tutored many students at home as a residential tutor outside the UK, often in the run-up to examinations. This means I have expertise in designing academic mentorship and coaching programmes. During the pandemic, I helped offer guidance to tutoring organisations who needed to adapt their approach to working online. I have also designed bespoke and general A level-specific materials and learning materials which I draw on during lessons, and amend according to individual students' interests and the case studies chosen by their schools.

Hattie is a fabulous tutor with an exceptionally wide breadth of knowledge on subjects of Art and History of Art. She has the wonderful ability to break down complex themes and narratives in order to produce highly informative and most of all, enjoyable sessions. Her great strengths are in essay structuring and review. Her skills in this area make her a fantastic tutor able to transform the performance and motivation of all of her students. Equally, her lengthy experience with fine art make her a ideal person to work with on portfolio building and fine art tutoring. I cannot recommend her enough!
Having worked alongside Hattie in job shares for several years, I can testify she is a reliable, articulate teacher with a real passion for the subjects she teaches.
