About Chris
I have worked in university learning development for nearly ten years, helping students build the academic skills, confidence and independence needed to succeed. I hold a PGCE in Post-Compulsory Education and Training, an MA in Linguistics and a BA in English Language.
My teaching style is calm, encouraging and non-judgemental. I understand that capable students can struggle when tasks feel unclear, overwhelming or difficult to begin. I offer a patient space in which mistakes are part of learning and strategies are adapted to the individual. My experience includes supporting students with academic writing, critical thinking, reading, referencing, presentations, teamwork, digital skills and effective use of AI.

My lessons are practical, supportive and tailored to the challenges you are facing. We can work together on planning assignments, structuring academic writing, critical reading, note-making, referencing, presentations, revision, time management and breaking overwhelming tasks into manageable steps.
I particularly welcome neurodivergent students and those who struggle with organisation, concentration, confidence or getting started. Rather than imposing one “correct” way to study, we will develop realistic strategies that work with your needs, strengths and circumstances.
You can bring an assignment brief, feedback, notes or simply a task you do not know how to approach. I will help you understand expectations, organise your ideas and develop your own work while preserving your individual voice. My role is to teach and guide—not to write assessed work on your behalf.
