About Thai

Hi, I'm Thai!

I'm a UK-based English tutor with 9 years of teaching experience and a passion for helping students become confident, independent English users.

I hold a BA in English Language Teacher Education, an MA in Applied Linguistics with TESOL from the University of Sheffield, and a Cambridge CELTA qualification. I also achieved an overall IELTS band score of 8.0.

Throughout my teaching career, I've had the pleasure of working with students from a wide range of cultural and educational backgrounds. My experience includes teaching General English, Conversational English, IELTS preparation and English for Academic Purposes (EAP), including teaching international students at the University of Leeds and Leeds International Study Centre.

Having studied and worked in the UK myself, I understand both the excitement and the challenges of learning and using English in an international environment. This experience has shaped my teaching philosophy: I want my students not only to improve their language skills but also to feel comfortable expressing themselves, sharing their ideas and communicating with people from different backgrounds.

What kind of tutor am I?

I'd describe myself as friendly, patient, encouraging and enthusiastic. I take my students' goals seriously, but I also believe learning should be enjoyable! I celebrate progress, welcome questions and always encourage students to see mistakes as opportunities to learn.

Outside teaching, I enjoy cooking, travelling, photography, dancing and exploring fashion and makeup. I love bringing creativity and real-world topics into my lessons, making English feel relevant to everyday life.

Whether you're working towards an IELTS target score, preparing for university or simply hoping to communicate in English with greater confidence, I'd be delighted to support you on your learning journey.

About the lesson

English Beyond Textbooks – Learn, Create and Communicate with Confidence!

I believe learning English should be more than memorising grammar rules, completing exercises or preparing for exams. It should be an enjoyable, meaningful experience that helps you express yourself confidently in real-life situations!

1. My teaching approach

My lessons are interactive, creative and tailored to your individual goals, interests and learning style. I use a communicative, student-centred approach, which means you'll have plenty of opportunities to practise English rather than simply listen to explanations.

Depending on your goals, we might explore interesting topics through discussions, interviews, debates, role-plays or presentations. For writing practice, we could work on anything from emails, blogs and news articles to academic essays and reports.

I also believe mistakes are a natural and valuable part of learning. My aim is to create a friendly, supportive environment where you feel comfortable asking questions, experimenting with language and developing your confidence.

2. What does a typical lesson in my class look like?

Although every lesson is personalised, here's what you can generally expect:

- Warm-up and goal-setting: We start with a short conversation or engaging activity to activate your existing knowledge and introduce the lesson topic.
- Language exploration: We'll explore useful vocabulary, grammar, pronunciation, reading or listening skills through relevant examples and materials.
- Interactive practice: You'll apply what you've learned through practical tasks, conversations, problem-solving activities or exam-style exercises.
- Feedback and reflection: I'll provide constructive, personalised feedback, highlight your progress and suggest ways to continue improving.

For IELTS preparation, we'll focus on developing the four language skills, understanding exam requirements, practising effective strategies and improving your performance through targeted feedback.

For Academic English, I can support you with academic writing, reading, presentations, critical thinking and communicating effectively in university settings.

3. What makes my lessons different?

With 9 years of English teaching experience, an MA in Applied Linguistics with TESOL, a Cambridge CELTA qualification and experience teaching English for Academic Purposes at UK universities, I combine academic expertise with a creative, practical approach.

I don't believe in a one-size-fits-all method. Whether you need structured exam preparation or simply want to become a more confident English speaker, I'll adapt our lessons to your needs and help you make meaningful progress.

4. Who are my lessons for?

I offer online English lessons for teenagers and adults, including:
- Learners who want to improve their General or Conversational English.
- IELTS candidates working towards their target band scores.
- International students preparing for university or studying in an English-speaking academic environment.
- Learners who want to strengthen their academic writing, presentations and communication skills.
