About Jessica

I’m currently studying Food Science at university and love helping students build confidence and feel genuinely supported in their learning. I understand how easy it is to feel overlooked in large classes, and I want every student I work with to feel seen, heard, and comfortable asking questions.

One of the biggest challenges students face is not being shown how to revise effectively. I know from my own experience that revision is very personal - what works for one student might not work for another. It took me time to find techniques that suited me, and I’m passionate about helping students discover what works best for them, whether that’s practice questions, structured notes, or other methods.

My goal is to help students feel in control of their learning, especially when it comes to exams. I focus on building confidence in answering questions, breaking down problems, and approaching exams with a clear strategy rather than feeling overwhelmed.

I also aim to break the stigma around science being “too difficult” by explaining topics in a clear, approachable way and building understanding step by step. With one-to-one support, students can progress at their own pace, strengthen weaker areas, and maintain confidence in topics they already understand.

Above all, I create a supportive and encouraging environment where students can grow in confidence, develop independence, and take pride in their progress.

About the lesson

As a Food Science student with A* in Biology and A in Chemistry and Maths, and experience tutoring GCSE and A-level students, I tailor every lesson to the individual.

Each student begins with an initial session focused on understanding their current level, goals, and exam requirements. If a student already knows the topics they need help with, we begin there; if not, I use low-pressure practice questions to identify strengths and areas for improvement.

Each session focuses on a specific topic, beginning with a clear explanation of key concepts using structured materials, followed by guided worked examples so students can build confidence. In the final part of the session, we apply learning through exam-style questions to develop technique and reinforce understanding.

As students progress, I revisit previous topics to reinforce their knowledge. When approaching exams (mocks, end-of-year exams, GCSEs or A-levels), sessions shift towards exam preparation, including practising past papers, refining exam technique, and learning how to break down questions and structure strong answers.

I also place a strong emphasis on teaching effective revision strategies, helping students become more independent and confident learners. Progress is monitored continuously through performance in questions and regular feedback, ensuring each session builds on the last.

My goal is to create a supportive, low-pressure environment where students feel comfortable asking questions, make steady progress, and gain the skills and confidence to succeed in their exams.
