About Izzy
A nurturing, individualized approach, including improvisation starting from the first lesson, elements of Sukuki method, and playing by ear and/or note reading and theory, depending upon needs, preferences, and learning style of student. Adult beginners welcome.
I enjoy watching children and adults blossom into greater self-confidence and joy as they discover first hand the rewards of learning an instrument.
A friend of mine asked me to teach him the violin when we were both in our 20s. He'd been told he was tone deaf and had no rhythm. I don't believe there is any such thing as no musical talent. Rather, no musical experience. Anyway, he did really great and inspired me to keep teaching.
Viola performance major at Indiana University School of Music, Bloomington. Certified Level One Violin with Suzuki Institute of Utah. Nine performances in high school as part of New York Youth Symphony, in Carnegie Hall. Subbed with Utah Symphony and many other Utah groups.

Ask them what their specific interests are musically. For beginners: Do one thing at a time. First, how to hold the instrument. (Then some improv games with plucking open strings.) Next, how to hold the bow. (Bowing open strings.) Then, using fingers of left hand, while plucking. Then, putting it all together. For intermediate and advanced: find out what their goals are and structure lessons accordingly. Lessons all levels always include these four things: technique (like scales); review; new songs; improv or something just for fun.
Ages 5 through 80. All levels of experience. Violin, viola, fiddle.
