About Susan

¡Buenos días! I’ve been an education professional all of my life and am in my 9th year of teaching high school Spanish levels I, II and III. I’m sure I can help you wrap your head around this new language! It just takes patience and a little effort. Shoot me an email and let’s get started! 🤗

I have a background in Early Childhood program management. About 10 years ago my parents were ill so I needed work that wasn’t so all consuming. I had always loved Spanish, getting straight A’s in it throughout my school career. My mom suggested I get certified to teach it, and here I am 9 years later!

My teaching credential is in secondary Spanish. I minored in Spanish in College. I’ve been teaching Spanish for 9 yearsand began learning to speak it in elementary school.

About the lesson

I first ask the st. ent some questions to determine where their knowledge and understanding of Spanish starts and stops. Then I begin teaching concepts that naturally follow and build in what is already known. I typically compare English to Spanish for a frame of reference. Then we start practicing.

As a teacher I have worked with students in small towns and with all levels of ability and motivation. As a tutor I’ve worked with middle schoolers, high schoolers and adults in Plano and McKinney.

I feel I have a unique ability to teach Spanish because I have a lot of experience with the language but am not a native speaker. I am teaching English to Spanish speaking adults part time. Let me tell you, it is much more challenging to explain your home language than one you learned in a classroom. I also have an excellent accent, so I’m a great model for correct pronunciation if that’s a goal. Look for someone who can relate to you and your struggle.

A few things worth thinking about before reaching out
What are your goals? Why are you engaging a tutor? How much of the language do you want to learn? How will you use it? How much time do you have to devote to learning a new language? Progress is made through time spent. There’s no short cut.

I like how she explains all of her lessons until she knows that everyone fully or somewhat understands it. If you don’t understand it then she explains it in different methods until you understand it.
