About Andrew

I love helping my students learn Spanish faster than they ever thought possible! Seeing their excitement as they grasp the language is my passion. Whether you're preparing for a trip abroad, trying to ace your Spanish test this week, or you're serious about becoming a fluent Spanish speaker, I've been in your shoes and I know how to help you reach your goals! Here are some of my qualifications as a Spanish tutor/teacher:

- Bachelor degree in Spanish from BYU

- 2 year Spanish speaking service mission

- 2 years of Spanish teaching experience at the BYU Provo MTC preparing missionaries to speak Spanish all over the world.

- Hundreds of hours of Spanish interpretation experience for large groups as well as Spanish translation experience.

- Certified fluent Spanish speaker

- Married to a Peruvian! I speak Spanish every day all day.

I'd love the opportunity to help you reach your goals in the Spanish languge!

I got started teaching in college when I taught at the MTC in Provo, UT. I would receive a group of 10-15 missionaries and my job was to prepare them to speak Spanish in their assigned mission for 2 years. We had 9 weeks to get them as fluent as possible, so it was a very accelerated learning envirement. I did a ton of 1 on 1 teaching as well as group classroom instruction. The MTC's teaching methods are world renowned and I learned a lot about how to create lessons and exercises to help students grasp the grammar principles. I taught 20 different groups during my time at the MTC and I got better with each group.

Typically I will want to take a few minutes getting to know my student and understanding their level of Spanish proficiency as well as their goals. Next, we will get right into learning a principle of Spanish that will give them confidence and motivation moving forward. Once the lesson is done I will work on creating a learning and study plan according to the needs of the student and have it ready to present for the second lesson.

I've worked with 18-25 year olds primarily but I've also taught adults in a 1 on 1 setting who are trying to learn Spanish for professional reasons.

Look for a teacher who can adapt the learning to your needs. I know there is great value in hiring a native Spanish speaker, but a native isn't always familiar with an English speaker's thought process. An English speaker who has become fluent at Spanish has gone through what you're going through and knows how to explain grammar principles in a way that really makes sense to you.

A few things worth thinking about before reaching out
What are my exact goals? What are my perceived weaknesses and strengths? What is my learning style? What have I tried already that worked or didn't work to learn the language?
