About Donovan

I have 3 years of experience as a Substitute teacher. I have been fluent in Spanish for 10 years and conversant in French for 3 years. I had a Minor in History at Boston University.

I have a passion for doing fun activities to teach Spanish and French culture. I love to show videos and documentaries to encourage discussion. I love helping my students to have a love of the subject that they are studying. When they love a subject, they usually do better.

I was inspired by the example of my grandmother. She had been a Substitute Teacher for 20 years. I started as a Substitute Teacher 3 years ago in order to get more involved in the school of my stepson.

I have a TEFL Certificate from the International Academy. I have 3 years of working as a Substitute Teacher in Grades K-12. I completed 4 years of undergraduate school at Boston University.

About the lesson

I usually like to do a brief meet and greet in the first session. I study the syllabus for the quarter or the year. After that, I like to adapt my teaching style according to the learning style of the student. I start slow and then pick up the pace according to the progress of the student.

I have worked with students of all grades. However, I usually work with students from Grades 6-12. I have also worked with students who need to learn English (ESL students).

Hire a teacher that you can be yourself with. You can learn a lot and have fun at the same time. Remember, when you love a subject, you do it better.

I taught Spanish Language and Culture as a Summer Camp Program. I did it last summer at the St. Albans Town and Educational Center. I loved playing games and doing dances with the students that were very prevalent in the Spanish culture.

A few things worth thinking about before reaching out
What is my learning style?

Am I a fast learner or a slow learner?

What prior knowledge or curiosity do I have on this subject?
