About Tracey

I am a professional musician, so my instruction not only involves classroom experience but real life experience. I'm thrilled to share my knowledge with others and put my whole heart into teaching.

I love the collaborative aspect of teaching! Helping students acheive a goal or find just the right way to approach a difficult passage of music is a really wonderful thing.

I started teaching voice lessons while I was working towards my undergraduate degrees. I taught in a music store initially and then opened my own studio to better accomodate my students' schedules. I found a love for teaching early on and it became more than just a 'side hustle' for me. I delight in finding each student's favorite aspect of music and helping them nurture that passion into a true and life-long talent.

I have a Bachelor's degree in Vocal Performance and a Bachelor's degree in Music Business. I am also currently studying and performing classical music in the Chicago area.

About the lesson

I always offer my new students a free 30 minutes voice consultation. We discuss the student's goals and the reasons they want to try voice lessons. Then I come up with a plan and explain more about my teaching style and how I can help them acheive these goals.

I have taught students from age 5 to 55 from all walks of life and talent levels. I specialize in high school students working towards school and community auditions, and I prefer to teach classical style music. However, I am able to teach any style of singing and I find that classical technique translates seamlessly to any performance style.

Students should look for three things when interviewing teachers:

1) Is this teacher qualified based on education or years of experience? Unfortunately, many young students start off with a teacher who puts quantity of music before technique, the end result being a student who knows a lot of Disney songs, but can't breath properly or match pitch well enough to pass an audition.

2) Does this teacher have a warm, welcoming demeanor? Voice lessons tend to be very personal. When a student is frustrated, he or she needs a teacher who will listen and understand rather than try to push forward.

3) Is this teacher willing to work with my goals? Although I am a classical singer, I am always happy to work on other styles of music with my students.

Details

A 30 minute lesson with me costs $25. A 60 minute lesson is $40. I do offer a significant discount when students choose to pay monthly. Please contact me to inquire further!
