About Lisa

I believe in tailoring instruction to my student's specific goals-and their goals are as individual as the people I teach. Also, focusing on proper technique is really important but it is best accomplished by working on the style of voice that the student is most interested in performing in. No cookie-cutter approach here! Also, I believe in acknowledging an artist's sensitivity toward their art-even if they are a beginner. Positive constructive critique in my studio allows a musician's self esteem and confidence to grow. It absolutely thrills me to see a student progress toward their goals- whether it be by baby steps or leaps and bounds. I love the "aha moments" when a technique we have been working on suddenly clicks and my student begins to look at their voice and their singing in a new light. It is just as gratifying to see it in beginning singers and musicians as it is in experienced pros who come in for a a little advice before booking time in the recording studio.

About the lesson

During the first lesson I do a quick interview to discover the student's level of experience and understand their goals. Then we start with learning the basics, such as proper breathing technique. Next, I give a quick listen to how they use their voice. I make suggestions along the way so that they can hear a difference right away! Students have some say in their choice of repertoire so that they can choose songs they enjoy singing. We'll talk about that in the first lesson and generally start with a song in the second lesson.
