About Bharati

No two voices (or people) are exactly the same, so my approach to teaching involves understanding how each student learns and helping his/her voice emerge. Vocal exercises and song choices are tailored to each student, depending on his/her style preference. I offer training in contemporary (musical theater, pop, and rock) as well as classical styles.

Besides learning how to sing, students will learn how to read music and explore basic music theory--an essential element for becoming a good musician!

I love watching my students' confidence and skills grow weekly, but my absolute favorite thing about teaching is when someone has an "Aha!" moment and sees the result all of the work he/she has put in. Whether it is a new note in his/her vocal range or a new sound that he/she has achieved, these little victories are the best!

I have been singing as long as I can remember. I began taking voice lessons in high school, simply to improve and feel more confident when auditioning for solos in chorus. My voice teacher brought up the idea of majoring in music, and I thought "Why not?!" I loved music and singing. I finished my Bachelor of Music and went on to grad school. During grad school, I realized how much I enjoyed teaching, in addition to performing, so that's what I decided to do!

About the lesson

Prior to the first lesson, I am happy to talk with students about any specific vocal issues that concern them. During the first lesson, we will work through a vocal warm-up. This allows me to listen to and assess the sound in order to identify any technical areas that need to be addressed. I find it extremely important to have students observe and describe what they feel is happening when they sing. My job is to help you understand how your voice works, and learn how it feels when you sing in different parts of your range. This way, when you are practicing on your own, you will have some sort of reference, and not feel lost.

I have worked with students ranging from 8-60+ years of age, in a variety of genres, including musical theater, pop/rock & classical. I have also worked with students with disabilities, and do my best to accommodate them.

Details

UNREGISTERED LESSONS: $45/30-min lesson; $65/45-min lesson; $80/60-min lesson. Lessons are scheduled on an as-available basis. Payment is expected at time of service.

REGISTERED LESSONS: Students receive an assigned weekly time slot, and are expected to participate in masterclasses & studio recitals. Pre-paid Quarterly (8 weeks) Tuition - $40 Annual Registration Fee (pro-rated Jan-Jun) + $30 Partial Recital Fee + $320/30-min lessons; $440/45-min lessons; $560/60-min lessons.

Pre-paid Semi-Quarterly Tuition (4 weeks) - $40 Annual Registration Fee (pro-rated Jan-Jun) + $30 Partial Recital Fee + $170/30-min lessons; $240/45-min lessons; $300/60-min lessons.
