About Lakshmi

I have been singing, performing and recording for over 25 years and have been teaching for 10. I help people find the strength and confidence they need to have a more fulfilling singing experience. I specialize in helping people recover from trauma they may have stored in their voice or that keeps them from singing or even from speaking up or speaking out. My work is about finding that deep intimate voice within, and letting it shine forth from the heart. I help people do this through singing and speaking.

I enjoy supporting people to blossom into their full singing expression. Because singing has been such a joyful and meaningful form of expression for me in my life, it is my joy to help others achieve this same joy. I enjoy supporting people as they transform and discover all that they are capable of as a singer, performer and/or recording artist, depending on what each person's personal goals are.

I started teaching because after my performances people started asking me if I did so. I found that I enjoyed sharing the gift of song so much that I took my teaching further and received formal training from the acclaimed BAST Institute for singing teachers based in the UK

I am a BAST trained singing instructor and I am also the curriculum author of the Radiant Voice - Healing through Singing program. I also have over 20 years of professional singing, performing and recording experience. I have performed across the United States and internationally in Asia, Canada and Bali. I am also a trained Music Together teacher and on staff as a voice and singing teacher at the Globe Institute in Sausalito, CA.

About the lesson

I like to hear what a student is wanting to work on, more power in the voice, finding more range to sing from, or singing with more depth, presence or confidence, for example. Just speaking with the new student helps me tune in to their level of need to begin with and then I know what direction to take with them. But every singer needs a good warm up and practice routine, and a routine that is interesting and also doable. So I usually start with a warm up. For me teaching is a very personalized intuitive process so I don't really have a cookie cutter answer that goes here. To be honest, I work intuitively in the moment to meet my students very particular needs

I have worked with students from the age of 7 to students in their 60s. I have worked with beginners, looking to gain more confidence and skill, and professionals seeking to step out from a supporting role and into a lead singing position. I coach people on how to sing better technically, but also how to access more emotion, power, presence, how to sing on stage, microphone skills and how to show up professionally in the recording studio

Details

I offer 3 lesson lengths and serve students starting at the age of 7-70

30 minute session = $45

45 minute session = $60

60 minute session = $80

For children 7-12 I recommend a 30 minute session.

For Adults the most popular session length is 45 minutes, although 60 minutes is also great.
