About Durga
Hi! The first thing you should know about me is that I love teaching singing to others every bit as much as I love singing myself. I currently teach both privately and at a private school, where I get to help kids (and adults) learn the fundamentals of singing through contemporary music and then perform in live rock shows at venues all around town.
No matter how you learn, however, the first priority of any style you want to sing is proper vocal technique. Taking care of your voice is THE #1 priority in order to gain and maintain a lifetime of good sound- AND ensure you won't injure your vocal cords. We will build a solid foundation for you first, then start exploring and working with singing in different styles and genres until you feel confident singing anything your heart desires.
Interested in performing? I can help you with everything from mic technique to how to move around onstage, as well as getting over those performance jitters. For the creative among you, songwriting is a specialty of mine, so if you have been thinking of lyrics and wanting to write your own material, I can work with you to discover your talent and develop your unique sound.
I started singing at age 5 with classical voice training. From there I've done everything from musical theater to neo-soul. Currently, I have been a student of Indian classical vocal (and instrumental) music for 6 years and it has leveled-up my overall singing style and sound 100 times over. I also have a 90's alternative-rock cover band that plays around Central Florida, and another original project in the works.
