About Kelly

I have over 12 years of experience as an educator working with students from kindergarten to fourth grade. After earning my Master's Degree, I also earned my licensure in the role of Reading Teacher.

Recognizing and honoring diversity in identity and learning style, my learning experiences are authentic and engaging. Instruction is designed to be accessible yet challenging. I design well-rounded lessons that integrate all five pillars of literacy; phonemic awareness, phonics, reading fluency, vocabulary, and reading comprehension. I provide explicit feedback so that learners know exactly what they are doing well and feel involved in the learning process. Finally, I am always compassionate and patient so that even the most fragile learners feel confident and capable.

My experience has afforded me the advanced knowledge and skills to effectively instruct readers of all ages and contribute to your child's success as a learner.

Getting to know my students' interests, strengths and passions is an essential yet joyful precursor to providing a customized instructional approach. I love connecting with students, and helping them realize their potential. Above all else, witnessing a child's self-identity shift toward one of confidence, assuredness, and fulfillment is the precise motivation driving what I do.

I have enjoyed working with children since I was quite young myself. Starting off with babysitting jobs as a pre-teen, I went on to enroll in the education program as an undergraduate. Even throughout my work study employment, I worked as a student aide in the Special Education department at a local elementary school. Call it fate or destiny, I know education is where I am meant to be!

I made the decision to go into education when I was in high school. I graduated with a B.S. degree in Elementary Education from the University of Wisconsin Green Bay. After being employed as a first grade teacher for several years, I decided to enroll in UW-Stout's graduate program. I have a M.S. in Education, and Reading Teacher 316 licensure.

About the lesson

Before instruction begins, I spend time learning about my student's interests, learning style, and reading habits. Depending upon the child's developmental level, I administer varying assessments that will help guide my instructional plan. After that, it's game on! We jump into the fun stuff!

As both a classroom teacher and within an interventionist role, I have worked with a multitude of diverse learners. From ages 5 to 10, on the autism spectrum, with Individualized Education Plans, and with behavioral and emotional needs, I have supported each and every one as the individual that they are.

The birth of my only sister's child. Becoming an auntie was the most joyous moment of my life to date.
