About Marissa

Music has always been a part of my life. I began playing piano at 7 years old and only had a small hiatus due to a major injury to my arm. After this injury I realized how important music was and began researching college degrees for music. I began teaching piano after graduating high school

I hold a Bachelor's degree in Music Education and am working towards a Master's degree in Music Theory. I completed through the advanced level of Certificate of Merit and recieved Honors awards with each level. I have been teaching piano since 2015.

About the lesson

Each student is different and I conduct in depth research to determine teaching approaches that work with contrasting learning styles. After a few lessons I discern which method will be the correct fit for them. Students learn to read sheet music, play pieces by rote, and reinforce concepts with games. Each new student recieves a discounted trial lesson.

I have worked with many students of different ages and backgrounds. I have taught as young as 3 years old to adult students, and students with challenges such as autism. Typically I teach beginner through intermediate levels.

Try to ask what the teacher offers to get the full scope of what is included in lessons.

Recently I have incorporated book completion recitals which give each student the opportunity to perform and share some of their favorite pieces from books they have completed. The first one was a couple of months ago and her family was there cheering her on, it was a wonderful experience to share with my student and her family.

A few things worth thinking about before reaching out
Think about what styles of music you would like to learn (eventually!) so the teacher can make note of the best path for you to take to achieve your long term goals.

Make sure you are able to commit to a specified time slot as it is difficult to change once set up (not impossible, but difficult)

Tuition:

$100 per month for one half hour lesson each week

$190 per month for one hour lesson each week
