About Terry

Hi everyone. I teach private piano lessons in the local area and would love to teach your children. I have a music education degree, certified in music and math, and taught 7th grade math in the classroom. I have been teaching private piano lessons since 1996, and I have experienced all types of personalities and learning abilities, developing a deep awareness of the needs of each of my students. There's nothing better than seeing a student grow into a well-rounded, confident young adult, enjoying their musical background. I often receive videos of past students playing the piano. As a teacher there is no greater gift. Playing the piano offers a wide range of advantages, enhancing math and science skills, multi-tasking, organizational skills, brain power, self-esteem, and self confidence. I welcome students from 6 to 18 for piano lessons.

Teaching is one of the most rewarding professions out there and I absolutely love teaching! I get to watch children grow into wonderful young adults, with self confidence, and a better understanding of who they are. Playing the piano brings out the best qualities of those who pursue it. As a teacher, I become a part of the experience of watching the student grow. I learn and grow with them!

I have been playing the piano since I was 6 years old. I took lessons from 6 years of age through high school. Then recieved my music education degree for the University of New Orleans where I became certified in music and math. When my son was 6, he developed an interest in playing the piano. I started teaching him and from there my studio grew into what it is today. I currently have 35 students.

I have a music education degree, certified in math and music and I have been teaching private piano lessons since 1996. I am classically trained and teach classical music, as well as most other genres.

About the lesson

I offer 30 minute private piano lessons using the Bastien series, music theory and technic. I also teach Classical music, learing about different classical periods and composers, as well as any genre that the student chooses.

I am currently teaching piano students ranging from 6-18. I taught middle school math.

If I were in search of a piano teacher I would look for someone with the education and experience to be able to get me to an advanced level of playing, not just beginner level of teaching. That gives a student the option to pursue further knowledge of playing the piano and going as far as desired with one teacher, developing a comfortable and respectful relationship with that teacher.

A few things worth thinking about before reaching out
A student should ask oneself how much time do they have to devote to practicing the piano. Is it for strictly enjoyment purposes or continued education. The student's teacher should be able to work with either. Playing the piano for strictly enjoyment has so many positive benefits. It helps build self esteem, character, confidence, academic enhancement and self entertainment. It is also known to relieve stress.

I took piano from Ms. Terry for 10 years, and I loved every minute of it! Not only did I learn so much regarding the piano, but she is a wonderfully kind teacher and will support any student in the best way she can.

Terry was wonderful in encouraging our daughter to stick with Piano . Many times our girl wanted to give up, but Terry managed to keep her interested! Our girl still plays even though she had outgrown her teacher . Great foundation and great outlet.

Mrs. Terry is hands down the best piano teacher. She genuinely cares about her students and wants them to excel. She is so patient, but also pushes you to be your best. I was her student for 12 years and I found that my experience was so much better than others with different piano teachers. I learned so much more than I ever thought I would and knowing the instrument helped me in so many more ways than I would have thought! I would recommend Mrs. Terry one hundred times over and over!
