About Celeste
Celeste Pepitone-Nahas started piano lessons at age six. Following in the footsteps of her older brother, who played the cello, she soon began competing in Oregon Music Teacher Association (OMTA) Festivals, where she was encouraged by early success. In high school she volunteered as a church and retirement center pianist and deepened her love for the instrument by seeing the joy it could bring to others. At a young age she began attending summer music festivals, including the Brevard Music Center, the Eastern Music Festival, and the Atlantic Music Festival. A writer and musician, she went on to study English literature at Williams College, where she was honored to continue her piano studies with Lyell B. Clay Artist in Residence Doris Stevenson. While in college, Celeste’s love for piano took her across the world to the Orford Musique Academy in Canada, the Dublin International Piano Festival, and to Tbilisi, Georgia, where she spent a winter term interning at the Tbilisi Conservatory. For her junior year abroad, Celeste lived in Vienna, Austria, where she studied with Albert Sassmann and learned more about music history, literature, and concert culture. At graduation she was awarded the William W. Kleinhandler Prize for Excellence in Music, May 2017.
Most recently, Celeste has completed an MFA in creative nonfiction writing at Washington University in St. Louis, where she studied piano with collaborative artist Nina Ferrigno and began playing chamber music again. In St. Louis she launched her dual career teaching both creative writing courses at the university level and piano lessons to students of all ages. Celeste comes from a family of teachers and places a high value on musical education. Perhaps unsurprisingly, her piano teaching philosophy involves looking at pieces of music for the stories they tell and working with her students to make those stories shine.

During the trial lesson I like to discuss the student's goals with both the student and parents. I outline the method books that I teach with (Faber and Frances Clark), or discuss alternative styles, such as learning pop music, showtunes, or jazz.

Ms. Celeste has shown me how to make it easier to learn piano. Lessons are always fun and I’ve grown so much as a musician
Celeste is not only a skilled pianist, she is also a patient and attentive teacher. I get really anxious playing in front of people but she made me feel like it was ok to make mistakes. Highly recommend her classes!
Ms. Celeste is the right balance of patient but firm, kind and understanding but rigorous. Other instructors have had issues keeping my son interested and challenged enough not to get bored, but third time’s the charm. I like that she tailors her selection of pieces to his interests. It shows she actually cares. Highly recommend.
At the onset of our first lesson, Ms. Celeste eased my nervousness with her welcoming smile and her gracious demeanor. In contrast to an intimidating piano teacher I studied with as an adolescent, Ms. Celeste met me at my ability without judgement.
The joy I had experienced studying piano with my first piano teacher from ages 7 to 14 was restored as Ms. Celeste thoughtfully guided me through pieces I had played as a youth.
Ms. Celeste is not only a masterful pianist, she is also a compassionate and skilled teacher. I look forward to future lessons.
She identified student skill level quickly and taught accordingly. Very patient and Invested in student progress and success. Would highly recommend!
