About James

I like to make sure my students feel comfortable and at ease, and that they know we are in this together. I love to see people succeed, and to help further their goals. I like to work together in a way that gets them to understand the subject, and find a way to apply that to their goals.

I love getting to see the satisfaction and joy in completing a task, and the fulfillment in knowing the students are proud of themselves and the work they are doing. I love to learn, and love to see others push themselves and gain new knowledge sets.

I got involved in tutoring because I have been in supervisory or training positions before and have loved the dynamic of helping someone further their education and acheiving their goals. I want to see people succeed, and love being able to play a role in that.

I have recieved a college education, as well as exstensive training as a trainer in the healthcare field. I have taught people 1 on 1 before in a non certified role to great success. I have recieved top marks in all my classes, and maintained a 4.0 GPA where applicable. I am also CPR certified.

About the lesson

The first thing I like to do is find out the goal of the student and what they want from tutoring. After establishing our goals, coming up with a plan on how to achieve that goal in a helpful, productive, and enjoyable way. I want the student to be able to go into a lesson without stress and know that we are working together.

I have worked with individuals ranging from teenage years, to middle aged adults. I have trained people in multiple healthcare fields, as well as tutor younger students in the areas of English, Science, and History. I work with anyone willing to give tutoring a shot, and wants to learn.

I would say contact the tutor and see if there's a connection, and that you feel comfortable with them. There are so many ways to learn and to grow, and you might surprise yourself with taking a shot.

A few months ago, a friends son was struggling with writing English papers, and so my friend reached out to see if I could help. We started by finding something about the subject that was interesting to the student, even though they weren't thrilled by the subject as a whole. We found that by focusing on a particular aspect, we were able to branch out and work out paragraphs, and from there, build a paper. It was a great joy to see the satisfaction of realizing they were capable of doing this task they had previously thought was impossible.

A few things worth thinking about before reaching out
Make sure you know what your goal is, or what you want out of tutoring. Feel free to have a list of questions you'd like to ask, and know that its ok to as them. Ask about their experience, their own goals, and what they want from you as a student. Be comfortable in stating your needs, your education and well being come first.
