About Millie

Goals: Help students to improve their grades and help adults improve ttheir communication skills..

Native speaker, born in the Dominican Republic and raised in Puerto Rico. I have 20+ years of experience teaching all levels of Spanish from ABC to more complicated Spanish structure. I have taught middle school, high school, junior college (HCC) , Forida Southern College, and the University of South Florida. Earned my Master's degree in 1999 at USF. I wrote my own Spanish grammar book with 5 CDs, which were used at USF and HCC for conversational Spanish classes.

I like to apply the vocabulary and grammar in a real life situation. Each class is different and customized to the student's need.

Teaching it's a lot of fun and ...I love it! It gives me a great satisfaction when a student grasps a concept, improve their grades or when an adult can communicate with "Latino" friends or when they travel to a Spanish country.

I enjoy when the students see the light. When they understand the concept I am explaining.

When I was studying for my Associate degree I was the teacher's secretary . One day the Spanish teacher had to go to Jury Duty and she asked me to sustitute for her. I had such a positive response from the students (they said they preferred me as their teacher than their actual professor they had... wow that really surprised me) From that day I started to tutor students and study to become a teacher.

Master's degree in Junior College Teaching and Spanish.

Bachelor in Arts, Major in Spanish. Minor in Education.

About the lesson

I asked them what level are they? If they have some kind of background in Spanish, I ask them what they wantt to learn?, specific topic, specific materia?l

When they are beginners, I know what to do. I start from the beginning, with Hi, How are you? What is your nam?, last name?, how do you spell your last name? When they can't spell it, I teach them the alphabet as part of the conversation, etc.

All ages, all grades=== but I really prefer 14 yrs old and older (High School, College students and adults )

To look for not only a native speaker but one that have studied the language (deeper) and have previous experience teaching.

When June comes and some students receive their grades; they take their time to text me and let me know they had an A, "thanks to me" they say., That's priceless.
