About Matthew

I became a tutor out of necessity. My peers were struggling with math and I happened to have a solid understanding of the problems they struggled with. I understand that math can seem difficult, yet if seen from the proper angle, with the right attitude, it will click. As a tutor, my focus is on patience, optimism, and proper understanding of material.

I enjoy looking out for my students and helping them along the learning process. If I could help someone get ahold of the feeling that they're grounded in the math, I'm satisfied.

I was drawn to tutoring because my classmates were struggling. I was fond of tutoring, needed a job, and was presented with a postition that was convienient for me, so I applied to Edmonds College.

As a student I worked up to Calculus III at Edmonds College. Although I only started working professionally this past year, I have much tutoring experience.

About the lesson

I usually start explaining the math as it best makes sense to me, from there, I customize my approach to better fit the students learning style. Once I have this learning style down, I try my best to encooperate it in future teachings. I place an emphasis on finding whatever approach works best for my student. Previous students have described my teaching method as respectful, patient, and calming. It is my belief that there are not bad students, only bad teachers.

I've worked with college and high school students, ranging from ages 14-65. I have a decent amount of child rearing experience and have assisted in all levels of math, up to my present level of Calculus III.

Pick someone who understands what it's like to struggle with math and posses a skill for teaching along with their skill for math.

I am fond of UW decision to drop the SAT from their prerequisites. Test taking requires test taking skill. Those with OCD, ADD, ADHD, test anxiety, or other, may not submit results representative of their understanding.

A few things worth thinking about before reaching out
I think it's most important to know why a teacher was drawn to teaching, especially in the field of math. Often, teachers will care more for the subject than their students.

Details

Idearly the client and I will work out a price based off of price relevant details such as math level. Regardless, I'd like to start the first lesson off free, or with reduced price. This is so we may get to know each other, structure an effective teaching style, and insure the client knows what they're paying for.
