About Dawsyn

As a full time student myself I am able to provide support to students from the perspective of a peer instead of an intimidating adult. The effectiveness of peer education has been proved in multiple studies as well as in my success rate in past students! Students are more perceptive of help from those in a more relatable stage of life.

I have always been the kind of person to enjoy math. There is nothing more satisfying for me than helping someone understand the subject and maybe even hate it a little bit less.

I am a sophomore studying Industrial Engineering at the University of Washington, and have background studying math up to subjects like linear algebra and differential equations. I have tutored students in the subject of math from an elementary school level to high school calculus, I work great with all ages k-12.

About the lesson

When working with a new student I first like to take the time to understand their background in the subject, such as classes they have taken and areas they have enjoyed or struggled with in the past. Then I will look at the subject they are taking and request materials their instructors have provided such as a syllabus and homeworks. Finally I will work with a student through different methods of learning the subject to find the way they most efficiently learn and understand!

I encourage students to look for help from someone who will not simply give away the answers to a homework, but help students truly comprehend the material so they can perform well on an exam. This way even if the grade in the class is the motivator, they get most points in the test category where it matters most.

A few things worth thinking about before reaching out
It can be overwhelming to prepare questions before a tutoring session, but I do encourage students to attempt a problem the best they can before they ask for help so that I have an idea of where to start.
