About Matthew

I am a deeply dedicated teacher and tutor with decades of experience. I am currently a fellow at the Constitutional Law Center at Stanford Law School. I previously taught at Harvard Law School, Yale Law School, and the Cardozo School of Law.

I began tutoring while I attended Stanford University, from which I received dual degrees in mathematics and philosophy. I started my own tutoring business in 2004 as I completed my Ph.D. in philosophy at New York University, where I focused on political and moral philosophy. I then went to law school at Stanford Law School, and subsequently moved to Washington, D.C. to practice Supreme Court litigation.

I offer tutoring services across a wide range of subjects, including test preparation (both for college entrance exams like the SAT/ACT and graduate entrance exams like the LSAT/GMAT), college and law school admissions counselling, mathematics, law and pre-law subjects, and reading and writing instruction at all levels from elementary school to graduate school.

I have over two decades of tutoring experience, ranging from middle school to high school to college to graduate school students.

About the lesson

The process begins with a free consultation session, during which I evaluate the student's needs and learning style. Based on that evaluation, I design a custom program for the student.

Two principles guide that design. First, to serve the student's immediate needs in the short-term, like helping improve learning and test performance in the student's current classes. Second, to prepare the student to succeed without a tutor. By building a solid foundation of learning and test-taking techniques, my program can empower students to learn and perform to their potential without ongoing tutoring.

My pricing varies depending on the nature of the tutoring and the needs of the student. In general, my rates begin at $150/hr for pre-college subject-matter tutoring to $300+/hr for test preparation for entrance exams like the SAT/ACT or the LSAT/GMAT.
